Kids wrestling shoes
Before buying kids wrestling shoes, you must take into account several things: proper sizing, budget and most importantly of all, the type of sole. Keep in mind that there are other considerations as well, but you should not buy a pair of wrestling shoes for kids until you have a better understanding of what to look for.
The style and selection of childrens wrestling shoes are somewhat limited. Most shoe sizes under 5 will be limited to a few colors, no matter if it is a popular brand like Asics or Adidas. So bear in mind that the selections in the store you are shopping at, or the website you are viewing, will be pretty slim until your child goes into a higher size.
Proper sizing is probably the most important aspect of any shoe, but it is even that much more important for a wrestling shoe. You will always want to have your child’s foot properly measured by a shoes salesman. Never used old wrestling shoes as a sizing guide, especially since your child’s foot is constantly changing. Also, each brand has their own sizing guide, so even if your child has a size 4 foot, that means he may fit into an Asics size 4 wrestling shoe, but not an Adidas size 4.
When you are setting your budget, a good range is about $25 – $60. A higher priced wrestling shoe will generally be made of better material and have a good sole, which as we will discuss below, is quite important.
The type of sole a wrestler prefers is usually a personal preference. There two types of soles are split and uni-sole. A split sole offers your heel and the front of your foot to move more independently, while a uni-sole offers more traction. If your child has never worn wrestling shoes, be sure to have him try both kinds of soles to determine which he is more comfortable with.
